Meet the Women Behind the Mission

Pametra Geer is the Founder and Executive Director of Redefining Girlhood, a nonprofit organization created to empower girls through identity development, mentorship and purpose-driven programming.

Redefining Girlhood is not where her work began. It is where it matured.

Her understanding of sisterhood and identity started long before launching an organization. Growing up with three older sisters, Pametra witnessed firsthand the power of female relationships during formative years. She saw how sisterhood could offer protection, accountability, encouragement and growth. Watching her sisters navigate different stages of life and cultivating her own close friendships over the years shaped her belief that identity is strengthened in safe affirming community.

That foundation deepened during her time at Spelman College, an all women’s institution that profoundly shaped her understanding of sisterhood, leadership and purpose. While a student there, she launched Queens Turnaround as a grassroots initiative rooted in the belief that girls thrive in affirming community. The sisterhood she first experienced at home was expanded and refined during her college years, giving language and structure to what she had always known.

She graduated from Spelman College in 2018 and the work continued to grow beyond campus walls.

Through Queens Turnaround, Pametra led years of self funded grassroots work focused on empowering girls and supporting underserved communities. Her initiatives centered on educational access, youth development and community outreach, laying the foundation for what would later become Redefining Girlhood. Her work reached communities in Anderson, South Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and now Washington, D.C.

Pametra is an educator by profession and an advocate by purpose. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Spelman College and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. For years she has worked directly in classrooms and school communities, gaining firsthand insight into the academic, emotional and identity based challenges girls face and the life changing impact of consistent support, high expectations and affirmation.

As Pametra entered a new season of growth, clarity and alignment, she realized the mission had outgrown its original name. Queens Turnaround reflected where she started. Redefining Girlhood reflects who she has become and what girls need now.

The name Redefining Girlhood was born from both her personal journey and her work with girls. It reflects a recognition that too many narratives around girlhood are limiting, performative or externally defined. The organization exists to help girls redefine who they are, how they see themselves and what they believe is possible.

Redefining Girlhood is the evolution of years of service into a sustainable movement built on education, identity, confidence and community.

This organization is not a pivot. It is purpose fulfilled.

Sydney is the Chief of Communications & Operations of Redefining Girlhood, and her commitment to this work is deeply personal.

She joined Pametra in building Redefining Girlhood because the mission closely aligns with her own life experiences and long-standing passion for supporting young girls. Since high school, Sydney has mentored girls both formally and informally, creating spaces for guidance, encouragement, and emotional support during some of their most formative years. Supporting girls has never felt like just a role to her — it has always felt like a responsibility.

Sydney is a proud graduate of Morgan State University, where she earned her degree in Communication. Her academic background informs her intentional approach to messaging, representation, and community engagement, all of which are essential to the organization’s voice and impact.

Throughout the years, Sydney has witnessed firsthand how a girl’s confidence and direction can shift when she feels truly seen, supported, and believed in. She has also seen how easily girls can be overlooked during pivotal stages of development, especially when access to resources, mentorship, and affirming spaces are limited.

To her, Redefining Girlhood represents what every girl deserves: community, affirmation, and meaningful support during key milestones. From mentorship initiatives to signature experiences such as the organization’s prom dress drives, the work is rooted in reminding girls that they are worthy, capable, and deserving of opportunity.

Sydney is honored to work alongside Pametra in building Redefining Girlhood and to continue the mission she has been passionate about for years — helping girls grow into confident, supported, and empowered young women.
